General Resources

  • Family Central Inc. - Choosing a good child care arrangement is one of the most important decisions you will make for your child. Includes links to: the State Licensing Site and Child Care Locator, Tips for Selecting Quality Child Care, as well as Subsidized Child Care Qualifying Criteria.
  • Helping Children Deal with Tragic Events in the News - A collection of web sites to help parents talk to children about war and terrorism.
  • New Residents' Guide - New to Palm Beach County?  Look here for useful links to housing, employment, tax information and more.
  • Zero to Three - Zero to Three's mission is to promote the healthy development of our nation's infants and toddlers by supporting and strengthening families, communities, and those who work on their behalf.
  • Palm Beach County Parenting Warmline - Parenting Solutions - A Phone Call Away: 561-653-2401. Children's Services Council of Palm Beach County, in collaboration with Girls & Boys Town National Hotline, provide short term crisis counseling, referral to local resources, and emergency intervention as needed. It operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week with highly trained, skilled and professional counselors. Problems routinely dealt with include, but are not limited to, family conflicts, suicide, pregnancy, abuse, running away, and alcohol/drug addiction.

  • My Rules for Online Safety - Simple rules for children to follow while using the Internet.
  • Navigating the 'Net with your Kids - Online brochure that gives parents information to help them navigate the Internet with their children.
  • NetSmartz for Parents - NetSmartz provides on- and offline learning activities for parents to facilitate discussions with their children and teens about Internet safety.
  • NetSmartz411 - NetSmartz411 is parents' and guardians' premier, online resource for answering questions about Internet safety, computers, and the Web.
  • U.S. Department of Education's Parents Guide to the Internet - This Parents Guide to the Internet is intended to help parents--regardless of their level of technological know-how--make use of the on-line world as an important educational tool.

Kids & Teen Health

  • American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology - The mission of the Academy is the advancement of the knowledge and practice of allergy, asthma and immunology. Includes online "Tips to Remember" covering various topics in asthma, allergy and immunology in both Spanish and English.
  • American Academy of Pediatrics - The mission of the American Academy of Pediatrics is to attain optimal physical, mental, and social health and well-being for all infants, children, adolescents, and young adults.
  • Community Health Information Service - For Kids and Teens - A wonderful selection of web sites for kids and teens to learn more about health and safety issues.
  • KidsHealth.org - For parents, kids and teens from the medical experts at the Nemours Foundation, a nonprofit organization devoted to children's health and the largest physician practice delivering subspecialty pediatric care in the United States.
  • The National Information Center for Children and Youth with Disabilities - NICHCY is the national information and referral center that provides information on disabilities and disability-related issues for families, educators, and other professionals. Their special focus is children and youth (birth to age 22).

Education & Reading

  • Education in Florida - Official website of the Florida Department of Education.
  • Favorite Books - Find recommended books, as well as award winners.
  • FCAT Explorer - Helps students learn about and practice the skills tested on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT).
  • FCAT - Sample Test Material - The Sample Test Books are designed to help students become familiar with FCAT by providing helpful hints and offering practice answering questions in different formats.
  • Helping Your Child to Become a Reader - Information provided by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Home Schooling Resources - A wealth of resources to help parents who have decided to home school their children.
  • Lexiles - Frequently asked questions about lexiles, which test the reading levels of text and students.
  • Palm Beach County School District - Official website. Includes information on local schools, as well as, the official school calendar.
  • Reading Counts - Reading Counts! is an incentive based reading program in which students can read a book of interest, whether fiction or non-fiction, and then take a short quiz to test comprehension.
